Dr. Oz's Green Tea Recipe-A Metabolism Booster

I saw this on Dr. Oz.  I think it's worth a try.  This comes straight from his website:

For a powerful metabolism-boosting drink, try Dr. Oz’s Tangerine Weight-Orade. It contains: green tea, shown to boost metabolism 12% by drinking just one cup; tangerine, with a chemical composition that increases sensitivity to insulin and stimulates genes that help to burn fat; and mint, a calorie-free flavor enhancer.

Tangerine Weight-Orade
In a large pitcher, combine:
  • 8 cups of brewed green tea
  • 1 tangerine, sliced
  • A handful of mint leaves
Stir this delicious concoction up at night so all the flavors fuse together. Drink 1 pitcher daily for maximum metabolism-boosting results.

So, I've been making the tea and really like it. I add a little agave nectar to sweeten it... not much though. I haven't been drinking a pitcher a day but I'm drinking it instead of Diet Coke. I'm sure it's healthier. I hardly ever get a chance to see Dr. Oz but I did see this.  I thought I'd share the info, just incase!

  3. I have been told to stop drinking Diet Coke because it is eating the enamel off my teeth. This would be an awesome substitute... With benefits!

  4. I drink Arizona diet green tea. Could I use that or do I have to brew the green tea?

    1. You really should brew your own green tea for best quality and pure ingredient. Premade teas often have added sugars or other ingredients.

    2. Anything with fake sugar is horribly bad for you. There are tons of chemicals in canned "diet" drinks-even green tea. Steep your own.

  5. Can you substitute another citrus for the tangerine I can't find tangerines in the grocery store in Georgia

    1. I live in Michigan and fresh tangerines are rarely available, but canned tangerine segments are readily available not only in groceries but also at the dollar stores and very reasonably priced.

    2. I live in Georgia and tangerines just came out yesterday at Kroger. I made mine last night.

  7. I'm having a hard time finding tangerines because they aren't in season...does anybody know of a solution?

    1. Instead of canned (chemicals added) try an orange, or a little fresh squeezed tangerine juice from Trader Joe's or a Farmers Market.

  8. I saw a Dr. Oz episode where they made a similar drink with grapefruit and cucumber slices with mint leaves, also left to soak overnight.

  9. sounds good but doesn't that seem like a lot of caffeine for one day?
I guess I'll try it and find out

    1. I would like an answer to this as well. Both my husband and I are diabetic.

    2. There is natural sugar from the tangerine-but for a diabetic it would be very minimal and it's natural-

  11. How many tea bags for the 8 cups anybody knows..Thanks.

    1. Most teas use 1 bag per cup.

    2. I made a gallon at a time and used 4 bags. Thats what the box said. So 1 bag per quart. But it may depend on the brand.

  12. Stay away from agave, it is not as good for you as you would think. Try stevia, not Truvia, regular stevia with no additives.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Stevia is chemically based from what I have heard. Agave is organic, isnt it?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes agave is organic so completly natural and Dr. Oz suggested this on a show I watched as a natural sweetener. I do not use artificial sweetners and I love agave.

      Delete
    2. Stevia is a plant. it is not a chemical. agave is only organic if it is labelled as organic. otherwise, it is not organic...

agave spikes your blood sugar about as much as regular sugar. Stevia does not.

  14. I just made this with orange slices as we have no tangerines here yet. I did add a little Splenda for some sweetness. Will see how it tastes in the morninig.

  15. Agave may be organic, but it is heavily processed. Honey, date sugar, real maple syrup or stevia are better alternative.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I love this and do agree on the Honey, date sugar or real maple syrup. Just put it in when you steep your tea so it is well blended.

  17. I am going to try this. Will decaffinated green tea work? Caffeine really keeps me up at night.

  18. Is this working for anyone, more energy or weight loss?

    ReplyDelete
  19. I brewed my own green tea decaf, sweetened with a little honey, and the tea was great....great taste and a great alternative to drinking plain water..

    ReplyDelete
  20. Agave has a ton of calories so not good for weight loss. Stevia is a natural herb sweetener...
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stevia
It must be pure Stevia not an ingredient in an artificial sweetener like Truvia.

  23. Going to try this with rooibos or red tea!

    1. just an FYI...rooibos is not a true tea. The point of this drink is the benefits of the green tea.

    2. O course rooibos is a true tea! What are you talking about ??

  27. I made this up last night. I used 1\3 cup of honey to sweeten. This is wonderful and refreshing.
    Thanks Dr. Oz

  28. Does anyone know whether this works 'at all' with decaf green tea, because I can't do the caffeine.
If there really is no effect, then I won't bother....

  29. I drink regular brewed green tea daily. I have lost approximately 40 pounds in about 6 months. I have noticed a major change in my energy levels. I will definitely be trying this one. I discovered that using Splenda I was continually having headaches, so I switched to agave, love it! I now use true Stevia because I noticed with the agave I was using a lot more of it to sweeten things with and Stevia for me is much cheaper. ($3.49 per bag at Aldi's) These are just my experiences, I hope this helps answer some of your questions.

I've been doing this "Green Tea Thing" for approx. 5 days now & have seen my energy level soar wonderfully!!! I also have issues with caffeine so I used 4 regular green tea tea bags & 4 decaffeinated green tea tea bags per 2 1/2 quart pitcher with 1 orange (sliced), a teaspoon of ginger-(can be fresh or I used puréed ginger I had bought) & like 3 sprigs or so of fresh mint-(u can take the leaves off & just drop them in the pitcher if you would like- I've done it both ways). I've also added some fresh lemon slices, peach slices or apple slices sometimes ( try to stick to the original recipe though!!). I have not recently weighed myself within the past 5 days, but do know what my weight was before I started & will weigh myself after I have done 10 days of drinking the green tea mixture! I have NOT had as many headaches as I used to have; actually, I can't recall any disruptive headaches at all within these past few days!! I DID NOT ADD ANY SUGAR AT ALL!! Drank the mixture only with the natural sugar of the orange & what not. ( I personally love unsweetened tea anyways--much BETTER FOR YOU!!). I will keep everyone posted on my standings of this drink & within the next 5 to 6 days will post if there has been any weight differences.
