Christmas Eve Traditions

Our family is always creating new traditions.  Since GraciAnn's first Christmas, we've left Santa cookies on the cookie plate, our friend Nancy made for her.   When Mariella was born, Nancy made her a Santa plate too.  So, Santa started getting two plates full of cookies (lucky guy!) Well, this year we included Santa's reindeer.  Poor guys.  They do so much work.  They too deserve a treat.  Their treat: baby carrots and reindeer food.

Reindeer food is so simple to make.  GraciAnn and Mariella each had a bowl and a spoon.  They picked a pack of Quaker Instant Oatmeal, from our large variety. (GraciAnn has a tendency to eat oatmeal a lot.  Sometimes, for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  We have about a half a dozen varieties to choose from.) To the oatmeal they added one half Tablespoon of chocolate sprinkles.  Then they added a Tablespoon of colored sprinkles.  Finally, they spooned in a pinch (that's what the measuring spoon calls it) of pink decorating sugar.  They mixed it together with their spoons, sprinkled some pink sugar on top for an added treat, and voila... we had reindeer food.  They even sampled it to make sure it was delicious.  We put it outside for the reindeer.  We hope they like it!

We know Santa LOVED his yummy cookies.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

  1. What a cute idea, Shannon! We will have to leave food for the reindeer next year. Sounds like we have an idea for another craft "bowl" for next year!
