Steel Cut Oats-A Wonderfully, Healthy Meal

Breakfast has always been a challenge for me.  I'm not a fan of the typical breakfast foods.

Wait!!!!! I wasn't a  fan typical!

Recently, I've found another breakfast option that I actually enjoy.
Welcome Steel Cut Oats!
Steel cut oats are hearty, nutty, and not mushy like typical oatmeal. They take about 25 mins. to cook so I make 4 servings at a time.  A serving size, according to Quaker, counts as two servings to me.  A serving is huge! The oats refrigerate fine and it's simple to pop them in the microwave to warm them up each morning.

I put about half a cup of frozen blueberries in the bottom of a bowl.

I add half a serving of cooked oatmeal on top.  The blueberries are heated from the oatmeal and the oatmeal is slightly cooled by the berries. It works well!

I add coffee creamer (vanilla cinnamon is a great flavor choice).

Here it is, ready to mix.

Here it is mixed and ready to eat.  YUM!  Healthy, quick, and delicious.  A perfect way to start your day.

You could use fresh, frozen, or dried fruit.  I recommend trying dried cherries and adding sliced almonds. The possibilities are endless: bananas, peaches, strawberries, blackberries, mango, apples, cherries, raisins, craisins, almonds, pecans, walnuts, peanuts...

Have fun creating!

  2. Hi there, long time lurker, love your blog! :)

Another great thing about steel cut oats is if you are short on time in the mornings, you can start the oats right before you go to bed and by the time you get up, they are ready to reheat! You can also freeze them and they don't get mushy! :)

Thank you for reminding me about the goodness of steel cut oats!
