I needed a place, to write all my goals, in my craftroom.
Did I mention, I didn't want to have to go buy anything?
Well, I did it! I made a wonderful chalkboard out of stuff I already had.
What do you think?
This was so easy to make and it turned out wonderfully. Here's how you do it...
First, I gathered my materials. Chalkboard paint (we already had it!)
A VERY old, chippy, picture frame. It was missing the glass and the backing, but that made it perfect!
A piece of wood cut to fit the picture frame. I painted it three times with the black chalkboard paint. I let the paint dry thoroughly between each coat.
First, I sanded the picture frame well. A lot of paint came off so it was super chippy. That's okay! I then painted the entire frame gold. I wasn't going to leave it that way. I just wanted the gold to peer out when I distressed it.
I then painted the frame with two coats of white. I left the middle part gold. I didn't take a picture of this step, but I then distressed the white with my mouse sander.
Here's the back of the frame.
Using wood glue, I glued the chalkboard painted wood into the frame.
Here it is. It's ready to write on and hang!
I love chalkboard paint projects and yours looks great in that old frame. Nice tutorial, too.
