My sweet Anna turned 2 on Friday. For two weeks she talked about having a princess cake and being a princess. I guess it starts early.
I figured that since we would be having a small party I would forego our normal Sam's Club cake and I would put my new cake decorating skills to work.
I gave Anna about three choices of what kind of cake she would like to have. She overwhelmingly chose "yemon", which in her language means lemon. I made the lemon cake on Thursday and did the crumb coat as soon as it was cool. I put in the refrigerator overnight.
The next day I added the hot pink rosettes to the cake. Here is how it turned out:
I think the cake looks beautiful. It is very simple but classy. One thing that is even nicer is how easy these are to make. I had an overall idea how to make the rosettes but I am visual so I searched the internet for some resources. I found a great picture by picture tutorial from I am Baker that you can find here and a video tutorial from Boston Sweetie found here.
To make the cake a bit more fitting for my princess, I added a tiara to the top. Anna loved her cake and told everyone that she was a "pincess", as she can't say princess.
Here she is blowing out her candles with her brothers close by.
Anna didn't wait till we cut the cake, she dipped her finger in the icing right away.
To assist in cleanup we took off her dress and just let her have fun eating her cake. I think she even had icing in her belly button.
Anna is such a joy in our family. She is loved by all of us so much. I am amazed how much her sweet brothers adore her, take care of her and look out for her safety. We are blessed to have such wonderful children who brighten our lives each and every day.
