Halloween is just one day away! I wanted to share the costume I made for my oldest son, Ryan. Since his first idea of dressing up like Phineas & Ferb with his little brother failed (his brother is Scooby Doo) he had to go in another direction. Ryan loves playing Angry Birds. He asked me if he could then be an Angry Bird. I thought this was a great idea.
I showed Ryan some pictures of costumes, mainly the Red Angry Bird, and I was promptly told that the Red Angry Bird wasn't very fast. He wanted to be the Yellow Angry Bird as it is super fast!

Ruffled Candy Corn Shirts
It's no secret, I'm not a seamstress. I'm just not good at it. That being said, when I put my mind to something, I almost always succeed. Well, I saw a beautiful candy corn ruffled shirt and was inspired enough to make 6!
These are our sweet friends, Zoe and Aubrey, sporting their shirts.

Anna's Halloween Romper
The other day at Joann Fabrics, I found the best candy corn fabric. I know, I know, I have an addiction to all things candy corn! I bought a couple of yards to make something with one of my Whimsy Couture Patterns.
I wanted to make Anna something cute with this fabric. I opened up my Pillowcase Romper Pattern and got started.

Pinterest Picks of the Week 10/27
I have some great picks for your today. Enjoy!
Click on the picture for more information.
I love how Sew Kate Sew transformed this sweatshirt into a really cute jacket. I recently saw something like this on Etsy for $80. I know I wouldn't pay that, but I would definitely try this tutorial!

Shannon & I (Jill) have been working hard on our blog for almost a year now. We've shared our projects on many linky parties as we go. Many great blogs have sent new followers our way.
We are very appreciative of them giving us some free advertising. Some of these blogs have been extra good to us and have featured our work. We want to pay them back with a little love from us!
Go visit these sites and hopefully, you will see some of our work along the way!

It's apple season. If you're like us, you'll have the opportunity to pick your own delicious apples. Thank goodness for the beautiful orchards in the Georgia Mountains!

Pablo Hat (from The Backyardigans)
My nephew loves the cartoon, The Backyardigans. I thought my kids liked it quite a bit, but Drew surpasses their love. His favorite character is Pablo. I agree with him, Pablo is my favorite as well.
Since I had made him an Elmo hat that he loved, my sister asked me to try my hand at a Pablo hat. She sent me a few examples, but I put my own spin on it. Here is my adorable nephew, Drew in his new hat. My sister says he wears it all the time.

Great Things-Whimsy Couture Sewing Patterns & Giveaway!
It's Monday and time for another Great Thing! I am very excited to share today's Great Thing, Whimsy Couture Sewing Patterns. Denise is the fabulous seamstress behind Whimsy Couture. Like many of us crafty Moms, her business came out of making clothes for her first child.
If you like boutique clothes or all those custom clothes you find at craft fairs, then you will love these patterns. They are absolutely adorable! I have six of Denise's patterns so far and they are amazing! The directions are very clear and easy to understand. Even if you are new to sewing, these are patterns you can conquer.
Unlike most patterns, Whimsy Couture patterns are for a big span of sizes. You are't just getting small sizes, most of them go to teenagers and some are even for adults!
Let me show you some examples of these fantastic patterns:

Candy Corn Earflap Hat
I love how my family and friends are sending people my way who need something made. I've actually had quite a bit of business prior to even opening my section of the etsy shop. This makes me incredibly happy as it feeds my craft habit and allows me to make some money enjoying what I do!
My friend Heather, who I attended high school with, emailed me about making a crocheted candy corn hat for a friend of hers. I did some research and found some sample hats and then went about making my version. Check it out and tell me what you think.

Candy Corn Countdown Tutorial
My obsession with candy corn continues! The other night (when I should be sleeping), I had the idea of using up my leftover felt and making a candy corn decoration. Don't ask me why I had leftover white, yellow and orange felt. I am sure I had some craft in mind when I bought it, but since then I have forgotten it. Doing a countdown where my kids could move something to the next day would be fun and festive.
Let me share how I made this cute hanging countdown.

Pinterest Picks of the Week 10/20
I'm realizing that it is much more effective to search on Pinterest than it is to use Google. I find much better items and can look at exactly what I want. Anyone else with me?
Check out what I've found this week. Click on the picture for more information.
I would win the Mom of the Year Award for making this for my boys. I can see my oldest catapulting this into my younger son's mouth. Both boys would be ecstatic!

Samy's Tutu
I have been making many tutus lately. Many of Ryan's little girlfriends (that he has known since birth) had birthdays recently. I have found that making tutus is a great way to personalize a gift and not something you can buy at the store.

... and 345 days later....We have some great things planned! A giveaway is one of them!
We love subway art. We think it's a great way to personalize a space. Not only can you choose the size and colors you want, you can also choose the fonts and even more importantly the words or phrases.
This is a piece of Subway Art, I (Shannon) created for my craft room. The words are very special to me. The phrases on the craft room wall are constant reminders of ways I can be who I truly want to be.
Would you like a piece of subway art personalized just for you? In celebration of our upcoming blogiversary, we'll be making one for one of our followers. Do you want to know how to enter?

Jack O' Lantern Soap Dispensers
Last year I was browsing through Target and came across orange soap dispensers that were clearance for $1. Any other time of year and I would have thought, "Orange soap dispensers, yuck." It was Fall though and orange is a main color for Fall decorations, so it got me thinking.

Jill's Fall Decorations
A few weeks ago, I mentioned that I was decorating for fall. I had a couple people ask to see what my decorations looked liked in order to get some ideas. I wanted to share them with you. I hope that my pictures and ideas might spur you on to add some new decorations.
I love Fall. It is one of my favorite seasons. There is nothing like the crispness in the air and time to cuddle up under a blanket. I don't love winter, but I love all that leads up to it!

A Pumpkin Wreath
And yet another Fall Wreath....
This pumpkin wreath was made by tying tulle around a foam wreath form. I just cut strips of orange and green tulle, and tied it in knots. I tied the strips closely together and got a fun, full wreath!

Applesauce Cake
I can't wait to share this delicious recipe with you. My Mom passed on this recipe to me and I made it for my small group from church tonight. The cake is very moist since it has applesauce in it and the top is crunchy from the cinnamon and sugar mixture. It was a crowd pleaser! To make it even better, it is very easy to make!

Planter Boxes and a Great Giveaway
Okay, so how lucky am I? I have a great friend, Marijke, who owns a local nursery, Grower's Outlet. Years ago, my husband built four planter boxes to go under our garage windows. I've planted them, each season. I have to be honest, they've never been planted well... until now! I asked Marijke for advice. She told me I needed a thriller, a spiller, and a filler plant to complete my window boxes. She also suggested specific plants for my fall planting.

Halloween Countdown
Happy October! We promise to share great seasonal crafts and recipes with you this month! Stay tuned...
Great Halloween decorations, part 1:
Last year I made about a dozen, "Countdown to Treats" sets for friends and family. I got the idea from the HowDoesShe girls and their great tutorial. As you can see, I changed the "Countdown to Candy" to "Countdown to Treats". Otherwise, I used their ideas and created a great decoration that can be used every year!
